Giant barbs, CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
The giant barb is the largest carb that lives in rivers in Asia. Sadly, these giants are critically endangered and to help save them, the King of Cambodia issued a royal decree back in 2005 declaring the giant barb as the national fish with hopes of spreading awareness and advocating for its conservation.

The giant barb is important in Cambodian culture and history. You can see pictures of them carved into the walls of Bayon Temple. It’s important to protect these amazing fish so they can continue to be a part of Cambodia’s heritage.
One way to help the giant barb is by breeding them in captivity. When they are young, they grow really fast, so they can be released into the wild to help increase their numbers.
